The Tides Out Guarantee
This map is built to last. We back it for a full 5 years. If anything happens to it in that time, we'll replace it or refund you.

Coming soon: pre-orders open. The Medium is new and the first ones will be ready from late November. Order now and you'll be in that first batch.

Our New Zealand topographic map, scaled down to 70 cm tall.

From the Southern Alps to the cone of Mt Taranaki, this layered wooden map shows the terrain of Aotearoa in relief. It's the same design as our Large, made smaller for walls that don't have room for a metre-tall map. There's a layer every 300 m, eight in all, so the mountains still stand up off the wall. Laser cut from European Birch in our Auckland studio and put together by hand, layer by layer.

How pre-ordering works

You order and pay now, the same as any other map, and you'll be in the first batch of Mediums, ready from late November. We'll keep you updated as yours is made.

Assembly & installation

The Medium hangs on the same removable skeleton mounting system as our Large.

A slim wooden skeleton attaches to your wall with 3M strips, so there's no drilling, no screws and no holes. A separate levelling fixture lets you get the whole piece level and centred before anything is fixed in place. The map then mounts onto the skeleton with wooden dowels, so you can lift it off the wall and put it back whenever you like. If you ever move or redecorate, the skeleton comes away cleanly without damaging the wall.

How they're made

Each map starts by sourcing the appropriate topographic data source. We spend hours in design making sure the contours appear smooth yet accurate, and the whole map feels balanced. From there, we laser-cut sheets of wood to bring the landscape to life. Every piece is assembled by hand by our team in our Auckland studio.

Common questions

What if I'm not happy with my map?
We offer a full guarantee on craftsmanship. If you're not happy when your map arrives, or any time in the next 5 years, let us know and we'll make it right. Our small team takes real pride in the build quality of everything we send out.

When will mine be made?
It's a pre-order. The first batch will be ready from late November, and yours will be in it. If you need it by a specific date, get in touch and we'll tell you honestly whether we can make it.

Will it be safe to ship?
Yes. We take extra care with our packaging to make sure your map arrives in perfect condition (in the rare case something goes wrong in transit, we'll replace it at no extra cost). We use NZ Post's courier service for everything within NZ.

Do you ship overseas?
Yes. Shipping is free within NZ and Australia, and a flat NZ$100 to the UK, Europe, the US, Canada and South America. Anywhere else, send us a message and we'll let you know the cost to your country.
