About Tides Out Maps
Tides Out Maps was born from a love for the ocean. Our mission is to capture the places you love to surf, dive, or sail—and turn them into meaningful artwork for your home.
What started as a passion project in August 2021 has grown into a small New Zealand brand handcrafting beautiful wooden depth maps.
From their workshop in Ellerslie, Auckland, Matt and Kate design, cut, and create each map by hand.
Matt draws on his engineering background and graphic design skills to transform complex GIS (Geographic Information System) data into stunning, minimalist artwork.
In 2024, Kate joined the business. Their shared love for the ocean—through freediving, surfing, and kayaking—continually inspires new designs and ideas.
Why the name Tides Out Maps?
Imagine if the tides were to recede all the way out… You’d see the incredible landscapes usually hidden beneath the ocean's surface. That’s what we aim to bring to life.
