Caring for Your Tides Out Map

Caring for Your Tides Out Map

Simple ways to help your map last a lifetime

Your Tides Out Map is crafted to last—layered in premium plywood, sealed with care, and finished by hand. While every map is designed to stand the test of time, a few mindful habits will help keep it looking its best for years to come.

Keep Out of Direct Sunlight

Our maps are finished with two coats of water-based acrylic paint, chosen for its low environmental impact and high durability. While this finish is resistant to fading, we recommend displaying your map in a spot away from strong, direct sunlight. Occasional natural light through windows is perfectly fine—but avoid prolonged exposure near bright windows or under skylights.

Protect from Moisture

The top plywood layer is sealed with food-grade wood oil, adding both depth and resilience. This protective coat helps shield the wood from ambient moisture. Still, we suggest placing your map in a dry area—away from steamy bathrooms, damp basements, or kitchen splash zones. A stable indoor environment will help preserve both the surface and the shape of your map over time.

Gentle Cleaning Only

To clean your map, simply dust it with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using water, sprays, or chemical cleaners. The natural wood grain and layered cutouts are part of what makes your piece unique—treat them as you would a piece of fine furniture or handcrafted decor.

Built to Last, Made to Be Loved

Every Tides Out Map is made in New Zealand, using sustainably sourced birch plywood and marine-grade paint. The layered design is both visual and tactile—crafted to reflect the depth and rhythm of the ocean. Whether you hang it in a beach house or a city apartment, your map is more than just decor—it's a lasting tribute to the coastlines that mean something to you.
