Caring For Your Map
We engineer our maps so they'll last for years to come! Here are a few simple ways you can keep your map looking as new -
.
Try to keep your Tides Out Map away from direct sunlight. Two coats of water-based acrylic paint should be resistant to fading, however keep your map in the shade where possible (a little sunlight through windows is fine!)
.
Try to keep your map away from moisture. We finish the top plywood layer with two coats of a food-grain wood oil. This will do a good job of protecting the top layer, but keep your map in a dry environment where possible
.
.
For a variety of reasons, we choose not to add a glass frame to our products. If your map has been lying flat for a while, it will likely have collected a little dust. If you have a soft dry paintbrush, use this to carefully wipe away any dust. It works a treat!
.
What to do if you notice a small island missing?
.
Our maps are extremely detailed, and as a result contain some pretty small pieces of wood. Even though our PVA glue holds strong, very occasionally a small island might come loose. If this happens, send us a photo of the map, and we'll send you a replacement piece and small tube of glue!
