This is our wooden depth map of the Manukau Harbour.
.
The second largest harbour in New Zealand by area, the Manukau is extremely tidal. During each tide cycle about half its water squeezes through the harbour mouth that is less than 2km wide.
.
The harbour was an important historical waterway for the Maori, containing several important portages to the Pacific Ocean and Waikato River. It provided plentiful fishing, including snapper, flounder, mullet, scallops, cockles and pipes.
.
We design and build all our maps right here in New Zealand. To make geography accurate, each layer is laser cut. We then paint and assemble them by hand. Find out more about our maps, bespoke additions, and how they're made.
