About Our Maps

Every Tides Out Maps truely is a labour of love. Crafted completely by hand, our maps are created by stacking layers of painted wood a top one another to give a 3D aesthetic. A carefully selected blue gradient adds to the feeling that you can see straight through the oceans surface.

To achieve a high level of precision, each layer of our maps are cut using a laser. The layers are then individually painted and assembled, all by hand. This is done right here in Aotearoa - New Zealand (we recently achieved our NZ Made cert!) Learn more about how they're made, and the materials we use.

While being unique in artistic design, what we're most proud of is the fact that all of our maps are 100% geographically accurate. Whether you're looking at a deep ocean gully or an underwater reef, you can be sure it exists in real life.

This is such a unique and detailed gift piece of art to gift to someone. We also had it personalised with an icon which was really special.

We brought a TidesOut map for my Dad's birthday and the process was so easy. Matt and Kate were so good to work with and their communication throughout the building stage was awesome. They got it made and sent away in record time and we absolutely love it. We got the Top of the South map and it is now about to have pride of place in our dining room. Thank you TidesOut!

I met Matt and Kate at the Wooden Boats Festival in Hobart Tasmania and was very impressed with their display of 3D maps. I asked them to make me a Tasmanian map, it arrived this week and is now hanging in my living room. It is a beautiful piece of art and attracts a lot of attention. Thanks Matt and Kate for the Map and keeping me updated on the progress of the build. All the best, Phil
