Our team
The people making the maps.
Four of us in a small workshop in Auckland. Every map that leaves here has been touched by one of these hands.
Meet the team
The four of us.
Matt Peacock
Co-founder & studio lead
Since day one, 2021
Runs the design side of the business, handles most of the customer conversations, and still cuts and assembles when the schedule demands it. Started Tides Out with Kate as a Sunday-market side project that never quite stayed a side project.
Kate

[Placeholder β needs Matt's edit] The person behind our markets, festivals, and taking Tides Out to Christchurch, Tasmania, and everywhere else. Handles the operational side that keeps the workshop moving.
Sam

Joined December 2025
[Placeholder β needs Matt's edit] First proper production hire. Works part-time (~15 hours a week) doing the hands-on layer-cutting, painting, and assembly. Joined just in time for the biggest silly season yet.
Andre

Joined June 2026
[Placeholder β needs Matt's edit] Newest team member. Came on board when we signed the lease on our own workshop, doubling our production capacity.
What we care about
A few things we don't compromise on.
-
Every layer, hand-cut
Nothing gets outsourced. Every piece is laser-cut, painted, and assembled here.
-
Real data, real places
Every map is built from actual bathymetric or topographic data. No stylised generic shapes.
-
One customer at a time
We reply to every message. Every custom brief gets a real conversation, not a form response.
-
Made to last
Birch plywood, water-based paint, timber oil. A piece that ages well and doesn't warp.
Where we're based
