An engraving

A small symbol or marker etched into the map — a house, a heart, an anchor, a set of initials. Perfect for marking a home, a favourite anchorage, or somewhere that means something.

A cutout

A small hand-cut wooden shape — a fish, a boat, a whale — that sits raised in the ocean of your map. A three-dimensional detail with real presence.

Custom text in the title

Replace or add to the title along the top of the map — a family name, an event, a date. Great as a gift for a wedding, anniversary, or milestone.

A message on the back

A short scribed message on the reverse side. Nobody but the recipient will see it — but they'll know it's there every time they take the map off the wall.

How it works

Three steps from map to mantelpiece.

    Pick your map + tick Personalised at checkout

    Choose the coastline you want, then select Personalised (+$50) before you add it to your cart. Leave a note at checkout telling us what you'd like, or reply to your order confirmation email.

    We confirm the details with you

    Kate or Matt will get in touch within a day or two to confirm placement, size, and any bits we need to check. If anything's tricky, we'll suggest an alternative.

  3. 3

    We make it, we ship it

    Your map is made to order in our Auckland studio. Allow 10–14 days from the day we've confirmed the details, plus shipping. Free within NZ and Australia.

Common questions

What to expect.

How many personalisations can I have?

Up to three per map, for a flat $50. Mix and match across the four types — for example, one engraving plus two cutouts, or a custom title plus a message on the back.

What if I want more than three?

Get in touch. We can quote for larger jobs, and for anything more heavily customised we might suggest a full custom design instead.

What if the map has land relief or topography?

Engravings can be harder to see on maps with lots of land layers because the marks can sit inside the terrain. It's not a dealbreaker — we'll always find a spot that works — but on those maps a cutout or a message on the back often reads more clearly.

Do I need exact coordinates?

Nope. A description like "just south of the point at Hahei" is enough. If we're unsure, we'll send you a preview and check before we cut.

How long does personalisation add to the build time?

None, usually — personalisation happens during the standard 10–14 day build. For complex or urgent jobs, let us know your deadline when you order and we'll do our best.

Can I gift a personalised map?

Yes — this is one of the most common reasons people personalise. Add a message to the back, or a custom title, and it becomes a piece nobody else has. We can ship directly to the recipient with a note if you'd like.
